The New Hope Story

Every church's story boils down to the same thing: God told some people, "Follow me" - and, with much stumbling, they did. That's what we think happened to us, and the fact that we're still here leads us to believe we may have gotten that part of the story right.

Back around 2001 a small group of people at Grace Fellowship Church, an independent church in Timonium, began exploring the idea of starting a new church in the 795 corridor. After meeting and praying together for a while they decided that it was time to go ahead and "launch." So - with Grace's blessing and assistance - they hired a pastor, rented out a movie theater and had their first Sunday morning service in March of 2003.

Since then, the movie theater has been torn down, and more than half of the people in that first core group have moved to other states. We have grown from that initial small group of a dozen or so households into a full-fledged independent church with a footprint spread throughout Baltimore County, Baltimore City, Howard County and Carroll County. For ten years, we were privileged to meet in a historic Methodist church, and as of 2016, we are honored to share space in an Episcopal facility where followers of Christ have been worshiping since 1845.

The things that were important to us in those early days are the same ones that are important to us now: faithful worship, authentic community in small groups, thorough biblical preaching, adherence to sound doctrine, respect and affection for other branches on the Christian family tree, meaningful care for the needy, and representing Jesus well in the community where he has placed us.
